You have submitted an application! It's time to talk about what to expect if you are selected to train with us. While the JPWA doesn't offer or guarantee lodging, we will discuss tips for finding a place to stay, tips on finding a job in East Tennessee, we will talk about what to pack, and we will talk about what to expect in regard to your first payment.
- If you are selected to train with us we will always reach out to you if something is "wrong" or needs to be corrected. Your deposit CAN be drafted from your account at ANY time so please ensure the funds to cover your deposit remain in the account. HOWEVER due to billing cycles it is possible that the funds won't actually be taken out until the first day of class. If you notice the funds aren't immediately drafted out as soon as you receive your acceptance email it does NOT mean something is wrong or that you've been "rejected". Again, we will be very clear if we discover a problem. Please keep your deposit amount in the account READY to come out and we will deduct it when the time comes.
- The JPWA doesn't guarantee lodging however we work hard to connect students with other students that may be open to a shared housing scenario. Sharing a house or an apartment is a great way to learn about your class mates and to save a lot of money. If you would like to learn more about being contacted about house/apartment sharing opportunities please email our Social Media Director at [email protected] to get connected with other students--Again, this is an attempt to assist in your search. We cannot guarantee lodging. In addition to that, rental agreements between students and landlords are never policed by the JPWA and the JPWA cannot monitor room agreements.
- Begin to select comfortable clothes to pack and purchase elbow pads and knee pads. SNAFU brand soft pads from Walmart are a decent beginner brand until you are ready to choose pro pads. To get an idea of what to wear please watch an episode of JPWA Connections on Youtube and take a look at the clothes, tennis shoes, and wrestling shoes our students choose.
- IT IS VITAL to have a Facebook account. ALL class announcements will go out through a facebook group message and we cannot guarantee that we will remember to text you if you aren't in the messenger group. If you don't currently have a Facebook and messenger please set one up before the beginning of class and please make your profile picture be a clear and close picture of yourself (Not a cartoon, icon picture, group picture, pet, etc). This will assist with us finding you to add you to the group and with your fellow students associating a name with a face.
- We recommend the Facebook group "I know of a Place in Knoxville" and "Knoxville Jobs" to ask questions about who might be hiring (Though the school is located in La Follette many students stay in Knoxville). Ride sharing or delivery jobs like Uber, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Lyft can be good options because you can work them as little or as much as you want. Honesty is important with a potential employer however you may not want to volunteer that you are only here for 3 months unless they ask. It may cause you to get passed over for other job applicants that are permanent residents.
- ANY and ALL training questions are to be directed to Tom Prichard at [email protected]
- Consider signing up for Patreon.com/JPWA as this will be where your class playbacks are uploaded each evening. You can go ahead and sign up if you wish before you arrive and you can watch the current class train to see what's in store.
- It can take a period of weeks for your application to be reviewed and either accepted or rejected. However, if you apply close to the class start date we will attempt to review those applications as quickly as possible. Please be patient and if class is a few weeks away don't assume something is "wrong" because you haven't heard anything as soon as you submit it.
